Unmarked 3D Round
The San Diego Archers
Will host the 3D Round
This SATURDAY, June 2, 2018
At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range
Registration opens at 7:30am
Registration Closes at 8:45am
Shoot begins at 9am
The 3D Round includes:
28 3D targets
1 Arrows per Target
Maximum Score: 280
No Rangefinders allowed**
(**Except in the “Guest” category! See details below.)
A wide range of high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set in various hunting scenarios. Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased. A maximum of two mulligans and one or two doe tags may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.
As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a rangefinder. This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is!
NEW: Range Finder-Allowed Guest Category!
Our 3D shoots are the most fun of all our tournaments, but many archer have told us they can’t afford to shoot unknown distances (greater chance of destroying arrows). We now allow Range Finders in a separate “Guest” category. Range Finders will not be allowed in groups competing in the Unmarked 3D category. The high score for Compound and Traditional Range Finder Guests will be announced, but no awards given. Please note! We are still working out the details of this new division, so, if you have any suggestions or comments, please let us know.
NEW: Trad shooters shoot from the Youth cone!
We are adding a 3rd cone at each target (per NFAA rules). The new Orange cones are designated for Youth (12-14 yo) and Traditional archers (recurve & longbows), maximum distance of 40 yards. Youth & Trad archers are always welcome to shoot from the Adult cone, if they want to!
NOTE: We hope to have more Trad shooters help with target set up and placement of the new cones….this is your chance to set up some very clever shots for everyone!
Scoring: 10-8-5
Maximum Score: 280
Mulligans and Doe Tags:
If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target. If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.
You may use the second mulligan on the same target. Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.
There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer. If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero. You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.
If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.
Distances:
For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards (occasionally longer, just for fun!)
For Youths (12-14 yo) & Trad archers (recurves & longbows), the longest distance is 40 yards.
For Cubs & PeeWee (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.
Entry Fee:
$10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
$15 for non-members.
Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.
Paper shoots may be canceled due to heavy rain (Animal, Hunter, Field Rounds).
3D Shoots are NOT canceled because of bad weather!
