________________________________________
Legend has it that deep within the undergrowth of Balboa Park struts the voracious Iron Turkey. Many a bold archer has risked arrow and limb confronting the fiend, only to have their precious shafts shatter to shards of carbon upon the beasts iron scaled hide.
The tale goes that one courageous archer, known only as Dave the Dauntless, fired a magical black arrow at the fowl beast. This shot broke away small scales from its Iron-clad breast revealing two small vulnerabilities. A mighty archer of great skill and cunning could exploit this weakness and successfully impale the creature, as for the rest…. Your arrows will surely splinter.
This a 34 target, ONE arrow per target shoot, including the Iron Turkey and many other interesting shots to test your skill: The Blind Shot, the Jakes, and the Distant Gobbler.
Hone your skills in anticipation, shoot until your limbs ache and your fingers bleed, for that is what it will take to triumph in this challenge.
Mulligans and Doe Tags:
If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target. If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow. You may use a second mulligan on the same target. Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.
There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer. If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero. You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag. If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.
For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.
For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.
For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Animal Rounds use 2D paper targets with ‘uneven’ distances between 5 and 60 yards, reminiscent of the Hunter Round. The rules and scoring are significantly different.
The archer begins at the first YELLOW shooting stake of the target and shoots the first arrow. If it hits, you do not have to shoot again. If it misses, you advance to the second shooting stake and shoot the second arrow, then, to the third shooting stake for a third shot, if needed.

There are 3 scoring zones: Bonus Kill Zone, Kill Zone, and Hit Zone.
Scoring is based on where you hit and with which arrow.
The first arrow shot is scored 21, 20 or 18. The second arrow is scored 17, 16 or 14, and the third arrow is scored 13, 12 or 10. A scoring chart is included on your scorecard.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.
Paper shoots may be canceled due to heavy rain (Animal, Hunter, Field Rounds).
3D Shoot are NOT canceled because of bad weather!

Don’t know your specific bow style? Check out this great chart from CBH!
This SATURDAY is the last Animal Round of the year, for all you Members shooting for the Club Championship awards.
NOTE: IT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO GET TO THE ALCAZAR PARKING LOT NEXT TO THE RANGE!
The park has scheduled the Alzheimers San Diego Walk on Saturday. The walk starts at 8am.
We have dealt with this in the past, we just have to walk a bit farther to get to the archery range. If you arrive early enough, you may be able to talk your way past the road barricade guards.
