Thank You to Our Volunteers!

The San Diego Archers would like to thank the 20 (yes, 20!) volunteers who joined the work party on Saturday, April 29, at the Rube Powell Archery Range. If you haven’t visited the range since then, you will be amazed at the transformation since the Animal Round on April 15. Most of the areas where the weeds were shoulder-high have been cleared!
Thank you to: Bernie V., Todd T., James A., Phil H., Derrick B., David V., Allison M., Steve M., Clarissa B., Russ H., Doug S., Peter L., Terry L., Jim W., Louis B., Pat P., Jack H., John M., Jim B., +1 more (who didn’t sign in…)
Individual contributions to range maintenance are also greatly appreciated: On Wednesday, April 19, an archer was spotted from the Cabrillo Bridge, walking from Target 19 to 20 (under the bridge) with his bow and a large weed cutter tool (like a garden hoe, but for swinging and cutting down weeds). He wasn’t recognized because he was wearing a hat, but his enthusiasm was very much appreciated!
Travis B. has also made many passes through the Rube Powell Range with his weed whacker after work during the week, clearing much of the south range.
Thank you to all volunteers!
There is still much more work to be done: clearing more weeds, replacing target bales and backstops, etc. The next work party is on Sunday, May 14, 7am-10am. Yes, this is Mother’s Day, but many of the potential volunteers said they would love to come out early and get more work done before any Mother’s Day celebrations begin. More info to be posted soon.
Remember: Volunteers get to shoot their next tournament for free!
    Thank you,

Unmarked 3D Round – 7 May 2017

Unmarked 3D Round
The San Diego Archers
Will host the 3D Round
This Sunday, May 7, 2017
At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30am
Registration Closes at 8:45am
Shoot begins at 9am

The 3D Round includes:
28 2D Paper Hunter Targets
1 Arrows per Target
Maximum Score: 280
No Rangefinders allowed

A wide range of high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set in various hunting scenarios. Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased. A maximum of two mulligans and one or two doe tags may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder. This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is!

3D Round Turkey

Scoring: 10-8-5
Maximum Score: 280

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target. If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.

You may use a second mulligan on the same target. Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer. If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero. You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.

If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

 For Youths:

  • For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.

  • For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

  • For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry Fee:
$10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
$15 for non-members.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

Paper shoots may be canceled due to heavy rain (Animal, Hunter, Field Rounds).
