The Animal Round includes:

28 2D Paper Animal Targets

1-3 Arrows per Target

Maximum Score: 588

Animal Rounds use 2D paper animal targets with ‘uneven’ distances between 5 and 70 yards, reminiscent of the hunter round. The rules and scoring are significantly different.

The archer begins at the first shooting stake of the target and shoots the first arrow. If it hits, you do not have to shoot again. If it misses, you advance to the second shooting stake and shoot a second arrow, then to the third shooting stake for a third shot, if needed.  NOTE: On some targets, all three shots are from one shooting stake only.

There are 3 scoring zones:  Bonus Kill Zone, Kill Zone and Hit Zone. Scoring is based on where you hit with which arrow. The first arrow shot is scored 21, 20 or 18. The second arrow is scored 17, 16 or 14, and the third arrow is scored 13, 12 or 10.

The best score per target is 21, the total possible score for the round is 588.

Entry fee $15 per person, $10 for members.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

To ensure we start on time, it will be necessary to close registration at 8:45am.

Shooting starts at 9:00am.

Unmarked 3D Round

*

Registration opens at 8 am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The Unmarked 3D Round includes:

28 3D targets

1 arrow per target

A wide range of high quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set at unmarked yardage in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased.  A maximum of two mulligans and one doe tag may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

 Scoring: 10-8-5

Maximum Score: 280

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder.  This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is.

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.  Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

Entry fee $15 per person, $10 for members

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

To ensure we start on time, it will be necessary to close registration at 8:45am.

Shooting starts at 9:00am.

Volunteer Party – 3/22/14

SAN DIEGO ARCHERS

VOLUNTEER PARTY THIS SATURDAY

MARCH 22, 2014

Have you noticed that the bales on many of

the target butts need to be replaced?

Are you curious about how new, replacement bales seem

to MAGICALLY appear at the Balboa Park and Morley Field Ranges?

Would you like to see how new bales are

compressed and moved between the ranges?

Or, better yet, would you like to help the hard working

club members who are always replacing the bales for us?

If you answered YES to two or more of these questions,

you are ready for a lesson from the SDA Master Bale Builders.

An additional four volunteers would be of tremendous assistance

and get the job done in just an hour or two.

If you have a good pair of work gloves and

want to join in the fun, please RSVP to:

SanDiegoArchers@yahoo.com

The first four volunteers to reply will be the lucky ones to help out this Saturday.  Bale maintenance occurs year round as needed, so there will be more opportunities to help throughout the year.  If more than four people respond, we will keep a running list of anyone interested in learning about bale maintenance and send you an email next time around.
