Unmarked 3D Round – 5 May 2019

Unmarked 3D Round
The San Diego Archers
Will host the 3D Round
Sunday, May 5, 2019
At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

3D Turkey

Registration opens at 7:30am
Registration Closes at 8:45am
Shoot begins at 9am

The 3D Round includes:
28 3D targets
1 Arrow per Target
Maximum Score: 280
No Rangefinders allowed (however, if you like, check out the new Guest (Open) class category below and use your rangefinder.)

We use a wide range of high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets set in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans were purchased.  A maximum of two mulligans and two doe tags can be purchased at registration for $1 each.

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a rangefinder. This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is!

Scoring: 10-8-5
Maximum Score: 280

Mulligans and Doe Tags

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  Your score is determined by that second (mulligan) arrow even if your score turns out worse than the first arrow.

You could use the second mulligan on the same target but your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There is a maximum of two buck-doe spreads in the field where the is doe placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score negative five (-5) points on that target.  With a doe tag, you score zero (0) points however you cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe regardless of possessing a doe tag or not.

If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

Rangefinder-Allowed Guest (OPEN) Category

We now allow Rangefinders in a separate category.  Rangefinders will not be allowed in groups competing in the Unmarked 3D category.  The high score for Compound and Traditional Rangefinder Guests will be announced, but no awards will be given.

Traditional Stakes for Recurve and Longbows Shooters

Longer range targets will have a traditional stake (orange cone) set (per NFAA rules).  Orange cones are designated for Youth and Traditional archers with a maximum distance of 40 yards.

Our younger shooters:

  • For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

  • For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry Fee:
$10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
$15 for non-members.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

Paper shoots may be canceled due to heavy rain (Animal, Hunter, Field Rounds).
