Will host the Hunter Round
This Sunday, February 18, 2018

Registration Closes at 8:45am
Shoot begins at 9am

The Hunter Round includes:
28 2D Paper Hunter Targets
4 Arrows per Target
Maximum Score: 560

The Hunter Round is a field archery tournament of 28 2D paper targets firing 4 arrows per target from RED colored stakes. There are 3 scoring zones on each target. Each arrow scores either 3 points for the outer black ring, 4 for the middle black ring or 5 for the center white ring. There is a center X ring to the inner 5 point zone.Hunter Target

Add up each arrow’s score to give a total score out of a maximum 560.

Yardages are marked and are in ‘uneven’ increments (not always in multiples of 5 yards) from the target from 33 feet up to 70 yards.

Targets may have different shooting positions:

1) All four arrows shot from one marked stake.

2) “Fan”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake spread in a fan pattern, with each stake at the same distance to the target.

3) “Walk Up”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake at decreasing distances to the target. For example, one arrow each at 45, 40, 35, 30 yards, or two arrows each at 45 and 40 yards.

For Youths:

  • Under 15, the longest distance is 50 yards.
  • For Cubs, under 12, the longest distance is 30 yards.

Entry Fee:
$10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
$15 for non-members.

The Wounded Warrior Battalion Archery Clinic is one of the many Health & Wellness clinics offered through the USMC Warrior Athlete Reconditioning Program. It is a year-round, six-week archery clinic held at our Morley Field Archery Range (Week Six is at the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range). The San Diego Archers currently support this program by providing volunteer instructors, maintenance of existing archery equipment and archery range use. We have seen first-hand how this program benefits many of our Wounded Warriors. The SDA would like to purchase more archery equipment so that more service members may participate in this great program.

Bring extra $$$ for mulligans at the Flying Pig and for tickets to win exciting prizes!

(Prize donations still being accepted. Send an email to: info@sandiegoarcher.com, if you would like to contribute!)

THE FLYING PIG 3D SHOOT
~Range Finders Allowed~

If you know anything about the local flora and fauna of the Balboa Park area of San Diego, you will be aware of not only the existence but also the migratory patterns of the Pink Lesser Spotted Rhinehart Flying Pig.

For those of you who are less familiar with this legendary exodus, all indications point to the migration beginning on Sunday, February 4th, 2018, starting at 9:15am and lasting until around noon. During this time we anticipate that each person will get at least one chance to shoot at this unusual creature during its majestic flight across the Balboa Park skies (plus 27 other targets)!

So, get out your bows and start practicing! Registration for this range finder-approved novelty 3D event starts at 7:00 am.

This is a 28 target, 2 ARROW per target, novelty 3D shoot. You’ll find the Pink Lesser Spotted Rhinehart Flying Pig and a wide range of other high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets set at unmarked yardages in various hunting scenarios.

3D SHOOT DETAILS

* Scoring: 10-8-5 (Flying Pig scoring: 25-20-16-10)

      * Maximum Score: 590
      * Mulligans & Doe Tags ($1 each):
If you missed or scored low with the first or second arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that mulligan arrow, even if you score worse than the original arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe is placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that mulligan arrow.

FLYING PIG MULLIGANS
Additional mulligans may be purchased for the Flying Pig! ($1 each)

Entry Fee
      *
$10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
      *
$15 for non-members.

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.
      * For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.
      * For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.
      * For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.
