The Field Round includes:
28 2D Paper Field Targets

The Field Round is a field archery tournament of 28 2D paper targets, firing 4 arrows per target from WHITE colored stakes for a total of 112 arrows. There are 3 scoring zones on each target. Each arrow scores either 3 points for the black outer ring, 4 for the white middle ring or 5 the black bull’s eye. There is a center X ring to the inner 5 point zone.

Field Target

Add up each arrow’s score to give a total score out of a maximum 560.

Field Rounds are at ‘even’ (5 yd) distances up to 80 yards, with the shortest distances measured in feet.

Targets may have different shooting positions:

1) All four arrows shot from one marked stake.

2) “Fan”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake spread in a fan pattern, with each stake at the same distance to the target.

3) “Walk Up”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake at decreasing distances to the target. For example, one arrow each at 45, 40, 35, 30 yards, or two arrows each at 45 and 40 yards.

For Youths:

  • Under 15, the longest distance is 50 yards.
  • For Cubs, under 12, the longest distance is 30 yards.

Farewell Party for Ed Herrera-This Sunday, August 13, 2017

Farewell Party for Ed Herrera Tomorrow!
Sunday afternoon, 8/13/17, noon til dark/whenever!
Potluck, please bring something to share
Ed will have the BBQ fired up for anyone that wants to grill something!

As many of you know, one of our amazing Morley Field Range Captains is leaving us this week. Ed Herrera has gone above and beyond all expectations of San Diego Archers Range Captains. Ed has completely transformed the archery community in Balboa Park, but especially at the Morley Field Archery Range. Besides being an incredibly positive and fun role model for new archers, adjusting equipment and offering advice, he is first to step up and help ANY archer at the range, taking apart bows and repairing them for no charge, etc. With his welding skills, he built and installed nearly all (if not all) of the bow racks, bow tables and picnic tables at Morley that everyone uses daily.  (See our Facebook post for more details on Ed’s accomplishments at Morley!)

Ed is being stationed in Hawaii and leaving on Wednesday, 8/16. We wish him the best in his new position and look forward to him hopefully returning to San Diego in a few years. He may be at the Tuesday Evening League (~5:30-7pm) this week, so if you can’t make it on Sunday, please stop by on Tuesday to say thank you to a wonderful volunteer!

The San Diego Archers would like to sincerely thank Ed for all that he has done for so many people in our wonderful archery community. We will miss you dearly!!!
