Monthly Meeting – 21 Mar 2016

 ATTENTION SAN DIEGO ARCHERS!

 SDA Member’s Meeting, this Monday, March 21, 6:30pm.

After a much too long hiatus, the SDA Monthly Member’s Meetings are starting up again. Past SDA meetings were held in restaurants, which were too noisy & distracting for productive meetings. The meeting on Monday will be in an auditorium in Grantville (east of Mission Valley, just north of I-8 at Mission Gorge Road). 

 

All members are welcome. If you would like to join us for dinner at 6:30pm, 

RSVP by 5pm, Sunday, March 20, is required for food. 

If you do not RSVP in advance, you are welcome to join us for the business discussions at 7pm (and any leftover food after RSVP members are finished.

 

Non-members are invited to join us by filling out a membership application at the meeting.

 

Primary agenda items: General club business (upcoming Board elections), planning of the King Arthur Tournament, including clean up & maintenance at the Balboa Range, KA sponsors & prizes.

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

 

Registration opens at 7:30 am

Registration closes at 8:45 am

Shoot begiins at 9am

The Field Round includes:

28 2D Paper Field Targets

4 Arrows per Target

Maximum Score: 560

 

The Field Round is a field archery tournament of 28 2D paper targets, firing 4 arrows per target from WHITE colored stakes for a total of 112 arrows. There are 3 scoring zones on each target. Each arrow scores either 3 points fro the black outer ring, 4 for the white middle ring or 5 for the black bull’s eye. There is a center ‘X’ ring to the inner 5 point zone.

Field

 A total of 20 points is possible per target, a perfect round is 560.

 

Field Rounds are at ‘even’ (5 yd) distances up to 80 yards, with the shortest distances measured in feet. 

 

Targets may have different shooting positions:

1)  All four arrows shot from one marked stake.

2)  “Fan”:  Each arrow is shot from a different marked stake, spread in a fan pattern, each stake at the same distance to the target.

3)  “Walk Up”:  Each arrow shot from a different marked stake at decreasing distances to the target.

(e.g., one arrow each at 45, 40, 35, 30 yards; or two arrows each at 45 and 40 yards.)

 

For Youth, under 15, the longest distance is 50 yards.

For Cubs, under 12, the longest distance is 30 yards.

Entry Fee: $10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military

$15 for non-members.

 

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

 

To ensure we start on time, registration will close at 8:45 am

Shooting starts at 9:00 am

Iron Turkey 3D – 06 March 2016

THE RUSTY TURKEY CHALLENGE RESULTS 

(Formerly known as the Iron Turkey Challenge!)

Sunday, March 6th, 2016

 Thank you to all the adventurous archers who came out to the Rusty Turkey Challenge!  This was the THIRDyear in a row we have had rain during this event. As in the past two years, scoring was a challenge on soggy scorecards, but everyone had a fantastic time. 55 people registered, 48 scorecards turned in.

An especially grateful thank you to all the volunteers who showed up to help set up the course. To the rest of us archers who showed up and enjoyed the day, please be sure to thank the volunteers who made it possible by setting up and taking down the targets for us all!

Congratulations To Mark Omel!!
