THE FLYING PIG 3D SHOOT

~Range Finders Allowed~

If you know anything about the local flora and fauna of the Balboa Park area of San Diego, you will be aware of not only the existence but also the migratory patterns of the Pink Lesser Spotted Rhinehart Flying Pig.

For those of you who are less familiar with this legendary exodus, all indications point to the migration beginning on Sunday, February 7th, 2016, starting at 9:15am and lasting until around noon. During this time we anticipate that each person will get at least one chance to shoot at this unusual creature during its majestic flight across the Balboa Park skies (plus 27 other targets)!

So, get out your bows and start practicing!. Registration for this range finder-approved novelty 3D event starts at 7:30 am.

This is a 1 arrow, novelty 3D shoot. You’ll find the Pink Lesser Spotted Rhinehart Flying Pig and a wide range of other high quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets set at unmarked yardages in various hunting scenarios.

3D SHOOT DETAILS:

Scoring: 10-8-5

Maximum Score: 280

Mulligans & Doe Tags ($1 each):

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.  Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe is placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.

For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry Fee: $10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military

$15 for non-members.

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

Volunteer Work Party-Feb 6, 2016

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Volunteer Work Party This Saturday, February 6th

at the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range, 8am.

After the wild, windy weather last Sunday, the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range needs more clean up before the Flying Pig 3D Shoot on Sunday, February 7th. Besides cleaning up fallen branches & trees, we will be painting over graffitti on the SDA storage container in the SW corner of the range.

If you are able to help for even an hour or two, please send an email to SanDiegoArchers@yahoo.com for more details about joining the work party. Wear sturdy shoes, bring work gloves and safety goggles if you have them!

The San Diego Archers truly appreciate your help. Both archery ranges in Balboa Park are maintained by volunteer efforts alone. If each member (non-members welcome, too!) contributed just one hour of volunteer work on either range, we would have two of the nicest looking ranges in California.

Anyone who volunteers at a work party shoots for free in their next tournament! Coffee and bagels will be available for volunteers.

Miller Family Fundraiser

The Miller Family

Danielle and Will Miller are a young military family here in San Diego. They have both been very active in the San Diego Archers: Shooting in many tournaments, volunteering to help set up 3D shoots, range clean up and helping run the King Arthur Tournament. Many people will know Danni as the amazing woman who would shoot every tournament with their young son, Brian on her back. Even more amazing, last year Danni was shooting with Brian on her back while pregnant with Zachary! This is a picture of Brian peeking out of his back pack carrier while Danni (and Zach) take aim at the Flying Pig 3D Shoot last year.

Danni & Will’s second son, Zachary Grant, was born in May 2015. In early January 2016, they received the news that Zach had SMA Type 1 (Spinal Muscular Atrophy), a fatal genetic disorder. Barely two weeks later, at just 8 months old, Zach passed away from complications due to SMA. He gave the ultimate gift of life, donating many of his organs to save the lives of others in need.

The San Diego Archers would like to show our support for this incredible family. We will match all funds raised at the Flying Pig 3D Shoot (registration fees, concessions, donations, etc.) and donate 100% to support the Miller’s needs (medical bills, research funding (curesma.org), the Children’s PICU at Balboa Naval Hospital, etc.).

Danni, Will and Brian will be at the shoot to help raise awareness of this tragic disease. Please show your support by dropping off any extra donations at the visitors table, before or after the shoot. If you are not able to join us this Sunday, you can still donate your entry fee (or more!) by sending a check, made out to: “SDA-SMA” to:

San Diego Archers, P.O. Box 2205, La Mesa, CA 91943

Please join us on Sunday, February 7, 2016 for the Flying Pig 3D Shoot and Fundraiser. We expect this to be a HUGE event and will need lots of volunteers to help with organization and registration. We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!

(Registration opens at 7:30 am)
