Volunteer Work Party-January 8, 2017

Sorry! Change of Plans:

Volunteer Work Party This Sunday, Jan. 8

Clean up of Rube Powell Archery Range in preparation

for The Flying Pig 3D Shoot (Sun. Feb. 5)

Bale-Making Tutorial work party has been moved to

Sunday, January 22, 8am-noon.

The Flying Pig 3D Shoot is our 2nd largest tournament of the year. It is also our annual fund raiser shoot for a worthy charity or organization. This year, we are excited to announce the recipient of our fundraiser will be the Museum of Man’s Jessop Ancient Weapons & Archery Collection!!

Details about this fun event coming soon!

Main Work Party Focus:

Rake & clear shooting lanes, rotate/restack bales on heavily used targets, cut up any downed trees, stack dead debris for removal, any other odds & ends!

Wear sturdy shoes, bring work gloves and safety goggles, if you have them!

The San Diego Archers truly appreciate your help.

Both archery ranges in Balboa Park are maintained by volunteer efforts alone. If each member (non-members welcome, too!) contributed just one hour of volunteer work on either range, we would have two of the nicest looking ranges in California.

Anyone who volunteers at a work party shoots for free in their next tournament!

Coffee and bagels will be available for volunteers.

The San Diego Archers

Will host the 3D Round

On Sunday, January 1, 2017.

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:00am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The 3D Round includes:

28 3D targets

1 arrow per target

NO RANGE FINDERS ALLOWED!!

A wide range of high quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased.  A maximum of two mulligans and one or two doe tags may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder. This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is!

Scoring: 10-8-5

Maximum Score: 280

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.  Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.

For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry Fee: $10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military

$15 for non-members.

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.
