Animal-18 January 2015

**Animal Round**

The San Diego Archers

Will host the Animal Round

This Sunday, January 18, 2015.

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30 am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The Animal Round includes:

28 2D Paper Animal Targets

1-3 Arrows per Target

Maximum Score: 588

Animal Rounds use 2D paper animal targets with ‘uneven’ distances between 5 and 70 yards, reminiscent of the hunter round. The rules and scoring are significantly different.

The archer begins at the first shooting stake of the target and shoots the first arrow. If it hits, you do not have to shoot again. If it misses, you advance to the second shooting stake and shoot a second arrow, then to the third shooting stake for a third shot, if needed.  NOTE: On some targets, all three shots are from one shooting stake only.

There are 3 scoring zones:  Bonus Kill Zone, Kill Zone and Hit Zone. Scoring is based on where you hit with which arrow. The first arrow shot is scored 21, 20 or 18. The second arrow is scored 17, 16 or 14, and the third arrow is scored 13, 12 or 10.

The best score per target is 21, the total possible score for the round is 588.

Entry fee $15 per person, $10 for members

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

To ensure we start on time, it will be necessary to close registration at 8:45am.

Shooting starts at 9:00am.

Work Party – 10 January 2015

Volunteer Work Parties Are Back!

The San Diego Archers are bringing back regularly scheduled Volunteer Work Parties to help maintain both of our great archery ranges in Balboa Park.  You do not need to be a member to participate in these events, just have the desire to give something back to the ranges that allow us all to enjoy the sport of archery in such a beautiful setting.

The goal is to have a different Volunteer host a Volunteer Work Party each month.  If there is an area that you would like to focus on, please let us know.  We will round up volunteers to help you with whatever area you want to work on (e.g., rebuilding stairs on hillsides, or shooting platforms and footbridge near Target 23, benches and tables at Morley Field, etc.).

Volunteer Work Parties will be held on the 2nd weekend of each month: on Saturdays in the odd months, on Sundays in the even months.  Dates will soon be posted on the SDA calendar on the website and announcements emailed to all members, and to non-members who have requested to be on our mailing list.

The First Volunteer Work Party of 2015!

When:  This Saturday, January 10th, 8am-noon.

Where:  Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range (meet at Practice Area).

Bring:  Sturdy shoes, work gloves (if possible), water.

Work Focus:  Cleaning up bale making area on North border of the range, clear palm fronds, rack shooting lanes, etc.

Next Volunteer Work Party:  Sunday, February 8, 2015

If you want to join us, just show up at the scheduled time and place.  If you need more information, please contact us at: sandiegoarchers@yahoo.com

The San Diego Archers

Will host the Unmarked 3D Round

This Sunday, January 4, 2014

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30 am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The Unmarked 3D Round includes:

28 3D targets

1 arrow per target

NO RANGE FINDERS ALLOWED!

A wide range of high quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set at unmarked yardage in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased.  A maximum of two mulligans and one doe tag may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

Scoring: 10-8-5

Maximum Score: 280

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder.  This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is.

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.  Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

Entry fee $15 per person, $10 for members

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

To ensure we start on time, it will be necessary to close registration at 8:45am.

Shooting starts at 9:00am.
