Field Target

The Hunter Round includes:
28 2D Paper Hunter Targets
4 Arrows per Target
Maximum Score: 560

The Hunter Round is a field archery tournament of 28 2D paper targets firing four arrows per target from RED-colored stakes. There are three scoring zones on each target. Each arrow scores either 3 points for the outer black ring, 4 for the middle black ring, or 5 for the center white ring. There is a center X ring to the inner 5-point zone.Hunter Target

Add up each arrow’s score to give a total score out of a maximum of 560.

Yardages are marked and are in ‘uneven’ increments (not always in multiples of 5 yards) from the target from 33 feet up to 70 yards.

Targets may have different shooting positions:

1) All four arrows shot from one marked stake.

2) “Fan”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake spread in a fan pattern, with each stake at the same distance to the target.

3) “Walk-Up”: Each arrow is shot from a different marked stake at decreasing distances to the target. For example, one arrow each at 45, 40, 35, or 30 yards, or two arrows each at 45 and 40 yards.

For Younger Shooters

For Youths (12-14 years old), the longest distance is 40 yards. For Cubs (11 years old & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

ironturkey2The Iron Turkey includes:
34 3D Targets
1 Arrow per Target
Maximum Score: 355
Rangefinders allowed

Legend has it that deep within the undergrowth of Balboa Park struts the voracious Iron Turkey. Many a bold archer has risked arrow and limb confronting the fiend, only to have their precious shafts shatter to shards of carbon upon the beast’s iron-scaled hide.

The tale goes that one courageous archer, known only as Dave the Dauntless, fired a magical black arrow at the fowl beast. This shot broke away small scales from its iron-clad breast, revealing two small vulnerabilities. A mighty archer of great skill and cunning could exploit this weakness and successfully impale the creature; as for the rest…. Your arrows will surely splinter.

This is a 34-target, one-arrow per target shoot, including the Iron Turkey and many other interesting shots to test your skill: The Blind Shot, the Jakes, and the Distant Gobbler.  Additionally, this Iron Turkey falls near Halloween, and some targets will have a spooky theme!  Come and see, if you dare!

Traditional Stakes for Recurve Archers and Longbow Shooters

Orange cone #1Longer-range targets will have a traditional stake (orange cone) set (per NFAA rules).  Orange cones are designated for Youth and Traditional archers with a maximum distance of 40 yards.

*
For 3D Round events, if range-to-target is greater than 40 yards due to an apparent error in target cone set-up, you may use a rangefinder to adjust your shooting range to 40 yards.

Younger shooters

For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards
For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.
