Sir Gordon Trad Shoot – 31 July 2016

ATTENTION

ALL TRADITIONAL ARCHERS!

The San Diego Archers will host the

Sir Gordon Traditional Shoot

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

On Sunday, July 31, 2016.

Registration opens at 7:30am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The Sir Gordon Traditional Shoot includes:

28 3D targets

1 arrow per target

NO RANGE FINDERS ALLOWED!!

This is an Unmarked 3D Target shoot. Compound bow shooters, dust off your longbows and recurves. Get out and do it like it should be done!

There is one compound bow class for those who haven’t got a Real Bow.

A wide range of high quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set in various hunting scenarios. Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased. A maximum of two mulligans and one doe tag may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder. This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is!

Scoring: 10-8-5

Maximum Score: 280

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target. If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow. You may use a second mulligan on the same target. Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer. If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero. You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag. If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.

For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry fee: $15 per person, $10 for members

Active Duty Military: $10

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

Monthly Meeting – 18 Jul 2016

ATTENTION SAN DIEGO ARCHERS!

SDA Member’s Meeting, this Monday, July 18, 6:30pm.

Very important discussions about the proposed renovations in Balboa Park (aka: Irwin Jacobs Plan).

All members are welcome. If you would like to join us for dinner at 6:30pm,

RSVP by 5pm, Sunday, July 17, is required for food.

If you do not RSVP in advance, you are welcome to join us for the business discussions at 7pm (and any leftover food after RSVP members are finished.

Non-members are invited to join us by filling out a membership application at the meeting.

For more information, directions or to RSVP, please contact the San Diego Archers at:

sandiegoarchers@yahoo.com

Primary agenda items: Discussion about Balboa Park’s Plaza de Panama plans (aka: the Irwin Jacobs Plan) which seriously impacts both of our archery ranges in Balboa Park. Review strategies for plan of action for dialogues with the City and Balboa Park, and keeping archers in San Diego informed on potential actions by the City.

This is a link to early documents filed by the City of San Diego Historical Resources Board in 2011. Starting on page 23/32, architectural drawings and rendering can be seen of the proposed bypass bridge from the SE side of the Cabrillo Bridge, over targets 1-6, into the Alcazar Parking Lot (bathrooms & SDA storage shed removed).

While the Jacobs plan may seem drastic, please also have a look at the alternative plans proposed by SOHO (Save Our Heritage Organization…with no consideration for saving San Diego’s archery heritage!). Look for Proposals B, B1 and B2.
