HALLOWEEN 3D ROUND!!

AT THE BALBOA PARK RUBE POWELL ARCHERY RANGE, THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2015

 Pumpkin_Face

Saturday’s shoot will be a special Halloween UNMARKED 3D Round!

 Pumpkin_Bullseye

We will have the regular 28 3D animal targets, PLUS six real pumpkins for bonus shots for a total of 34 3D targets! Pumpkins will be scored 10-8-5. An additional 10 points will be awarded to any archer in Halloween costume (Max. score: 350). Sorry Hunters, camouflage costumes don’t count….too easy!!!

We need help setting up the 3D animals and pumpkins. Anyone who helps set up or take down any 3D round will shoot for FREE!

If you would like to help with the set up, please send an email to SanDiegoArchers@yahoo.com.

NOTE: This is our first attempt at a pumpkin shoot. If you have suggestions for how it can be run better next time, please join us and show us how it is done (don’t just tell us!)

For SDA Members trying to qualify for Club Championship Awards, the total score from the 28 3D animals will be used in calculating your score (Max. score: 280). If you have any questions about the Club Championship Awards and Banquet, please ask any SDA Officer (Duane, Graham, Patty or Valare.)

 Regular 3D rules apply:

  Unmarked Halloween 3D Round

This Saturday

The San Diego Archers

Will host the 3D Round

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

This Saturday, October 31, 2015.

Registration opens at 7:30am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The 3D Round includes:

28 3D animal and six cultivated Curcurbita pepo (Pumpkin) targets

1 arrow per target

NO RANGE FINDERS ALLOWED!!

A wide range of high quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie animal targets and cultivated Curcurbita pepo targets are set in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased.  A maximum of two mulligans and one doe tag may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder. This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is!

Scoring: 10-8-5

Maximum Score: 280

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.  Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.

For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry fee: $15 per person,  $10 for members

Active Duty Military: $10

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

Please send any questions or comments to: SanDiegoArchers@yahoo.com.

Heads Up – Restricted Access to Balboa Range

HEADS UP!

Restricted Access To Balboa Range

Saturday Morning, October 17!!

Hello Fellow Archers,

This weekend is a double whammy and caught us off guard: We moved our Sunday Animal Round to Saturday, October 17 to avoid the congestion associated with the Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk through Balboa Park on Sunday. We just found out that there is another event on Saturday which will block access to the Alcazar Parking Lot next to our Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, is on Saturday, October 17. It starts in the parking lot between Park Blvd and the Hall of Champions, goes north on Pan-American Road, across the Laurel St./Cabrillo Bridge, South on Balboa Drive, back across the Bridge and ending in the same parking lot where it started.

The 3-mile walk begins at 8am. In the past, some archers have had luck talking their way past the road blocks and made it to the Alcazar Parking Lot, if they were early enough before the walk begins. Other times, we have parked on Balboa Drive and walked across the Cabrillo Bridge or in the Zoo parking lot and walked through the Park with our archery gear. Balboa Drive may be the best parking alternative this weekend, since the staging area for the Walk is on the Park Blvd side of the Park.

Our apologies for the inconvenience. Major events such as the Rock and Roll Marathon and the Susan G. Koman 3-Day Breast Cancer walk are not on the online Balboa Park Calendar. We have to check the individual calendars of each of these events to determine which may conflict with our tournament schedule….there are now nine events (including Easter) we need to track when planning our calendar for the following year.

This is our last Animal Round of the year. For those of you who would still like to qualify for the Club Championship Awards, but need a score in an Animal Round, this is your last chance!  Hope to see you Saturday!!

Thank you,
