Will host the Unmarked 3D Round

This Sunday, June 7, 2015

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

A general San Diego Archers meeting to follow immediately after the awards are handed out. If you would like to volunteer at our 48th Annual King Arthur Tournament, Sunday, June 21st, please join us at the picnic tables between the practice area and the Alcazar Parking Lot. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, selling raffle tickets, etc.

The Unmarked 3D Round includes:

28 3D targets

1 arrow per target

NO RANGE FINDERS ALLOWED!

A wide range of high quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set at unmarked yardage in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased.  A maximum of two mulligans and one doe tag may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

Scoring: 10-8-5

Maximum Score: 280

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder.  This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is.

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.  Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.

For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry fee $15 per person, $10 for members

Active Duty Military: $10

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

To ensure we start on time, it will be necessary to close registration at 8:45am.

Shooting starts at 9:00am.

King Arthur 2015 Paint Party

Attention All Ye Archers of San Diego

Please join us for our King Arthur Paint Party:

Sunday, May 24, 8am-noon

Balboa Park Archery Range

The King Arthur Tournament is coming up on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21. There is still work to be done to prepare our tournament grounds and targets for the visiting opponents!  Our legendary King Arthur Targets must be guilded, a.k.a. hand-painted, by any and all talented (and some not-so-talented) volunteers.  If you have any special talents that might be helpful in our preparations, please let us know.

Even if you just have an hour or so to spare, please come join us Sunday morning at the picnic tables just outside the gate to the archery range.  Most of the work should be done by noon or so.

This weekend is also the Ethnic Food Fair at the International Cottages near the Balboa Range. Come help out at the range for a while, then wander over and eat your way around the world! They will have food from 33 different cultures and performances in native costumes. (Saturday: noon-6pm, Sunday: noon-5pm)

NOTE ON PARKING: Parking in the Park will be nearly impossible after 9-10am, both Saturday and Sunday. A good alternative is to park on Balboa Drive, on the WEST side of I-163, and walk over the bridge. If you park in the Alcazar Parking Lot before 9am, it may take you 20-30 minutes or more to get out of the parking lot in the afternoon because of the crowds at the Ethnic Food Fair!! (Then another 20-30 minutes to get to Park Blvd!)
