Bonus Work Party Mar 2015 Thank You

THANK YOU, thank you, Thank You,

THANK YOU!!

Archery would not exist in Balboa Park without the hard work of volunteers who love archery.  If you love the sport of archery and enjoy shooting at the Balboa or Morley Ranges, please come join us at a future work party to help maintain these incredible archery ranges. Non-members are welcome, too!

March BONUS Work Party Wrap Up

A HUGE THANK YOU to the volunteers who worked so hard at the BONUS Work Party on Saturday, Mar 28: Chad, Carlos, Doug, Dorian, Pat, Fred, Allison, Melissa, Larry, Dana and Patty.  Dead branches, trees and brush were dragged into piles, Target 20 (under the bridge and other shooting lanes were cleared, and many loads of old logs were hauled to the dump. Carlos will be bringing in a chipper soon and pulverizing the piles of dead debris, which will be spread throughout the range for mulch. We still have a long list to do before the King Arthur Tournament on June 21st, but we are making great progress! The Balboa Range hasn’t looked this good in YEARS! Thank you, everyone!

Unmarked 3D – 4 April 2015

Unmarked 3D Round

>>>>This SATURDAY<<<<

The San Diego Archers

Will host the Unmarked 3D Round

This Saturday, April 4, 2015

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30 am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The Unmarked 3D Round includes:

28 3D targets

1 arrow per target

NO RANGE FINDERS ALLOWED!

A wide range of high quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set at unmarked yardage in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased.  A maximum of two mulligans and one doe tag may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

Scoring: 10-8-5

Maximum Score: 280

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder.  This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is.

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.  Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe is placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

For 15 years and older, the longest distance is 50 yards.

For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

For Cubs 11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry fee $15 per person, $10 for members

Active Duty Military: $10

Note: As with all 3D shoots – We will shoot come Rain or Shine.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

To ensure we start on time, it will be necessary to close registration at 8:45am.

Shooting starts at 9:00am.

Please send any questions or comments to: SanDiegoArchers@yahoo.com

Work Party – 28 March 2015-2

Volunteer Work Party:

This Saturday, March 28, 2015

Big, strong, energetic people needed!

 When:  Saturday, March 28th, 8am-noon.

Where:  Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range.

Bring:  Sturdy shoes, long sleeves and pants, work gloves, water bottle.

Work Focus:  We will be dragging all the dead and downed trees in the Balboa Range into a few piles. From there, the dead material will be chipped and scattered throughout the range. This is continued preparation for our Annual King Arthur Tournament on June 21st.

For those of you who have not been to the Balboa Range recently, it has gone through a remarkable change! SDA Member Carlos Espinoza was hired to give all the massive palm trees a dramatic hair cut and haul the downed fronds away (these had been piled up for the past two years.) Thank you, Carlos. The range looks fantastic.

Now, a crew of SDA members, including Chad, Craig, Carlos and Dorian, have volunteered to do the remainder of the clearing. Once all the dead branches are piled up, Carlos has volunteered to bring a chipper in and take care of the piles (with help from more volunteers, of course!)

***We need more volunteers to help drag the dead branches into piles.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to help before, this is a great group of guys who would really appreciate your help. (I’ll be there!)***

If you need more information, please contact us at: sandiegoarchers@yahoo.com

Thank you,

San Diego Archers
