Work Party Feb 2015 Thank You

THANK YOU, thank you, Thank You,

THANK YOU!!

Archery would not exist in Balboa Park without the hard work of volunteers who love archery.  If you love the sport of archery and enjoy shooting at the Balboa or Morley Ranges, please come join us at a future work party to help maintain these incredible archery ranges. Non-members are welcome, too!

February Work Party Wrap Up

A HUGE THANK YOU to the volunteers who worked so hard on Sunday, Feb 8: Graham, Doug, Peter, Dana, Pat, Scott and Patty nearly finished the realignment of the right field at the Morley range.  It was an enormous job ferrying bales from the Balboa Range, unstacking all the target butts, moving the bases and restacking the butts in their new locations. Thank you also to Duane and John, who finished making the last four target bases on Saturday.  Dave held his ground at the Balboa Range, making and installing new yardage markers at the targets which were closed during the Cabrillo Bridge renovation. Thank you, Dave!

January Work Party Wrap Up

A giant THANK YOU to the volunteers at the January 10 work party: Rob, Fred, Pat, Mike, Peter and Patty. The bale making area was cleaned up, the road from the practice area to target #1 was leveled out, stairs at target #24 rebuilt, palm fronds stacked and shooting lanes cleared.

And a special thank you to the Bale Making Monsters: Graham, Carlos, Craig, Chad, Ed, Doug, and Dorian.  And, of course, Duane and Dave, who are constantly working on things behind the scenes.

**Hunter Round**

This Sunday

The San Diego Archers

Will host the First Hunter Round for 2015

This Sunday, February 15, 2015

At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The Hunter Round includes:

28 2D Paper Hunter Targets

4 Arrows per Target

Maximum Score: 560

The Hunter Round is a field archery tournament of 28 2D paper targets firing 4 arrows per target.  There are 3 scoring zones on each target. Each arrow scores either 3 points for the outer black ring 4 for the middle black ring or 5 for the center white ring. There is a center X ring to the inner 5 point zone.

Add up each arrow’s score to give a total score out of a maximum 560.

Yardages are marked and are in ‘uneven’ increments (not always in multiples of 5 yards) from the target, up to 70 yards.

Targets may have different shooting positions:

  1) All four arrows shot from one marked stake.

  2) “Fan”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake spread in a fan pattern.

Each stake at the same distance to the target.

  3) “Walk up”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake at decreasing distances to the target.

(e.g., one arrow each at 45, 40, 35, 30 yards, or two arrows each at 45 and 40 yards.)

For Youths, under 15, the longest distance is 50 yards.

For Cubs, under 12, the longest distance is 30 yards.

Entry fee $15 per person, $10 for members.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.
