San Diego Archers Buck Doe

This 3D Round includes:
28 3D targets
1 Arrow per Target
Scoring is 10-8-5
Maximum Score is 280
Rangefinders are allowed

We use a wide range of high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets set in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans were purchased.  Up to two mulligans and two doe tags may be purchased for $1 each.

About Mulligans and Doe Tags

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  Your score is determined by that second (mulligan) arrow even if your score turns out worse than the first arrow.

You could use the second mulligan on the same target but your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There is a maximum of two buck-doe spreads in the field where the is doe placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score negative five (-5) points on that target.  With a doe tag, you score zero (0) points however you cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe regardless of possessing a doe tag or not.

If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

Traditional Stakes for Recurve Archers and Longbows Shooters

Orange cone #1Longer range targets will have a traditional stake (orange cone) set (per NFAA rules).  Orange cones are designated for Youth and Traditional archers with a maximum distance of 40 yards.
* If range-to-target is longer than 40 yards, shoot from 40 yards.

Younger shooters

For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards

Sir Gordon Traditional Shoot – 25 July 2021

Sir Gordon Traditional Shoot

The San Diego Archers
Will host the Sir Gordon Traditional Shoot
This Sunday, July 25, 2021
At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration is 7:30 am – 8:30 am
Shoot introduction starts at 8:45 am
Shooting begins at 9 am

Volunteers needed to help set up and take down targets!
Trad archers, here’s your chance to set up fun shots for all Trad shooters.
At nearly all past Sir Gordon Trad Shoots, our Compound buddies are the ones who show up early to set up the targets….then, Trad shooters moan about how far or difficult the shots were! Here’s your chance to contribute.

Parents, we hope you can help, too: We also want to be sure to set up Cub cones at every target for our up-and-coming champion archers!

If you aren’t able to help set up targets, help in taking down targets is very much appreciated! Remember: Volunteers shoot for FREE!

The Sir Gordon Traditional Shoot includes:
32 3D Targets
2 Arrows per Target
Scoring: 10-8-5
Maximum Score: 640
Rangefinders Not Allowed

While this is an unmarked 3D Target shoot, with a variety of high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets specifically set up for traditional shooters in mind, there will be “one” Compound bow class for those shooting bows with “gears”.

"Bowman Platform"SDA Novelty 3D Format: Two arrows per target !!
The San Diego Archers host four novelty shoots each year: The Flying Pig, Iron Turkey, King Arthur and Sir Gordon’s Trad Shoot. Each of these 3D shoots now include two arrows per target. All other monthly 3D shoots remain at one arrow per target.

Distances: As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a range finder. This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is!

  • For Adults (15 yo or over) and Youths (under 15 yo), the longest distance 40 yards.
  • For Cubs (11 yo & under, the longest distance is 25 yards.

About Mulligans and Doe Tags:

Mulligans.  A maximum of two mulligans may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each. If you miss your target, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target. If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that mulligan arrow, even if you score worse than the previous arrow. You may use the second mulligan on the same target.

Doe Tags.  There will be one and two buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer. If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero. You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag. If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

Entry Fee:
$10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
$15 for non-members.
