Will host the Field Round
SUNDAY, March 15, 2020
At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30am
Registration Closes at 8:45am
Shoot begins at 9am

The Field Round includes:
28 2D Paper Field Targets
4 Arrows per Target
Maximum Score: 560

The Field Round is a field archery tournament of 28 2D paper targets, firing 4 arrows per target from WHITE colored stakes for a total of 112 arrows.  There are 3 scoring zones on each target. Each arrow scores either 3 points for the black outer ring, 4 for the white middle ring or 5 the black bull’s eye. There is a center X ring to the inner 5 point zone.

Add up each arrow’s score to give a total score out of a maximum 560.

Field Rounds are at ‘even’ (5 yds) distances up to 80 yards, with the shortest distances measured in feet.

Targets may have different shooting positions:

1) All four arrows shot from one marked stake.

2) “Fan”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake spread in a fan pattern, with each stake at the same distance to the target.

3) “Walk Up”: Each arrow shot from a different marked stake at decreasing distances to the target. For example, one arrow each at 45, 40, 35, 30 yards, or two arrows each at 45 and 40 yards.

For Youths:

  • Under 15, the longest distance is 50 yards.
  • For Cubs, under 12, the longest distance is 30 yards.

Balboa Rube Powell Archery Range Work Party Sunday, 23 Feb 2020

Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range Work Party

Sunday, Feb 23rd, 2020
8:00 a.m. – noon

General clean up, weed whacking, raking, sweeping, painting, trash pick-up & more!

Hello Archers of San Diego!
Please join us for a work party this Sunday, February 23 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. We’ll conduct a little Spring Cleaning to dress up our Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range.
Start time: 8:00 (or as early as you can make it)
    • Supplies & tools (If you have them, we appreciate it when you can bring your own tools!)
    • Weed Whacker and String
    • Leaf Blower (or whatever tool makes grooming the lanes easier for you)
    • Tree Loppers / Pruning Shears / Tree Saw
    • Safety Glasses / Face Shield
    • Gloves / Long Pants, Long Sleeves and Boots recommended
    • Paint brushes / Paint Rollers
    • We have a pitchfork, a few rakes & shovels (or bring your favorite!)
Tasks:
  • Clear all shooting lanes and areas around targets. This will make locating arrows easier and speed up the shoot.
  • Repair/replace bales on the practice range and course targets as needed. (Please do not lift any bales alone. Most of them may be extra heavy due to the recent rain).
  • Consolidate green waste near the lower container. We plan to chip all material and use it as ground cover to keep weeds down.
  • Use old bale materials to fill in areas prone to erosion.
  • Paint over any graffiti on the lower container and bridge.
Extra credit work:
  • Clean the club refrigerator and barbecue grill.

We know this is a busy weekend for all of us so it’s okay that all the tasks don’t get finished.  Everyone is welcome who can spare some free time to accomplish unfinished tasks on their own time.
Let us know of anything we forgot.

Thanks everyone! We really appreciate your help.

Remember, bring work gloves, sturdy shoes, if you have them. Safety goggles (if you are weed whacking).

Water, coffee, donuts, juice and fruit will be provided.
Just show up if you decide to join us at the last minute. Even one hour of your time is helpful.
Our two fantastic archery ranges would not be in Balboa Park without the support of our loyal volunteers.

It is a chance for them to get together in a scenic environment and fresh air to share in stories, laughter and veteran humor without judgment. Specifically, the program addresses the strained and broken transitional system and aims to limit veteran struggles thereby reducing veteran suicides.

THE FLYING PIG 3D SHOOT
~Range Finders Allowed~

If you know anything about the local flora and fauna of the Balboa Park area of San Diego, you will be aware of not only the existence but also the migratory patterns of the Pink Lesser Spotted Rhinehart Flying Pig.

For those of you who are less familiar with this legendary exodus, all indications point to the migration beginning on Sunday, March 1st, 2020, starting at 9:00 am and lasting until around noon.  During this time we anticipate that each person will get at least one chance to shoot at this unusual creature during its majestic flight across the Balboa Park skies (plus 27 other targets)!

So, get out your bows and start practicing!  Registration for this range finder-approved novelty 3D event starts at 7:00 am.

This is a 28 target, 2 ARROW per target, novelty 3D shoot. You’ll find the Pink Lesser Spotted Rhinehart Flying Pig and a wide range of other high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets set at unmarked yardages in various hunting scenarios.

3D SHOOT DETAILS

* Scoring: 10-8-5 (Flying Pig scoring: 25-20-16-10)

      * Maximum Score: 580
      * Mulligans & Doe Tags ($1 each):
If you missed or scored low with the first or second arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that mulligan arrow, even if you score worse than the original arrow.  You may use a second mulligan on the same target.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe is placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero.  You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.  If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that mulligan arrow.

FLYING PIG MULLIGANS
Additional mulligans may be purchased for the Flying Pig! ($1 each)

Entry Fee
      *
$15 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
      *
$20 for non-members.
