Morley Work Party 31 Aug and 1 Sep 2019

Morley Field Archery Range Work Party

Saturday, Aug 31st, 7:00am – noon

and

Sunday, Sep 1st following the 3D shoot (~noon)

Hello Fellow Archers!!!

Big changes are coming to our Morley Field and Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Ranges. We will be replacing most of our Exclesior (shredded Aspen wood fiber) bales with ArroLast Carpet Bales! This is an enormous project and a great opportunity for new volunteers to lend a hand.

The first two (of many) work parties will be held at the Morley Field Archery Range this weekend, starting on Saturday at 7am and Sunday after the 3D shoot.

PLEASE BE PATIENT WHILE THE RENOVATIONS ARE UNDERWAY!! We are all volunteers, doing all of this renovation on donated time. Besides this weekend, if a group of two or more enthusiastic volunteers happen to be at the same range at the same time, they may close half of Morley or a few targets at Balboa on very short notice to get some work done. Please support anyone working on either archery range…the renovations will be worth it!

It will take a work party (or two), to figure out the most efficient way to move and install each carpet bale, what supplies are needed, etc.

The San Diego Archers would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to SDA Member Kim Wood and LA MESA LUMBER. Kim arranged to receive our 50 new carpet bales at La Mesa Lumber. We will bring them from La Mesa Lumber to the ranges, a few at a time, to install them.

Thank you also to Mark Omel (and Mark’s better half, Tomi) for getting this (work) party started. Thank you to JD Basden, Thomas Pham, Dennis Stephens and so many other volunteers. We could not do this without you!

3D Round (Rangefinder OK) – 1 SEP 2019

3D Round – Rangefinder OK!

The San Diego Archers
Will host the 3D Round
Sunday, September 1, 2019
At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30am
Registration Closes at 8:45am
Shoot begins at 9am

The 3D Round includes:
28 3D targets
1 Arrow per Target
Maximum Score: 280
Rangefinders allowed for this shoot!

Note:  this always draws a bigger contingent of shooters so come early to register.

We use a wide range of high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets set in various hunting scenarios.  Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans were purchased.  A maximum of two mulligans and two doe tags can be purchased at registration for $1 each.

Scoring: 10-8-5
Maximum Score: 280

Mulligans and Doe Tags

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target.  Your score is determined by that second (mulligan) arrow even if your score turns out worse than the first arrow.

You could use the second mulligan on the same target but your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There is a maximum of two buck-doe spreads in the field where the is doe placed between the buck and the archer.  If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score negative five (-5) points on that target.  With a doe tag, you score zero (0) points however you cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe regardless of possessing a doe tag or not.

If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

Traditional Stakes for Recurve and Longbows Shooters:

NEW: Trad shooters shoot from the Youth cone!!  We’ve added a 3rd cone at many targets (per NFAA rules).  The new Orange cones are designated for Youth (12-14 yo) and Traditional archers (recurve & longbows), maximum distance of 40 yards.

Note:  We hope to have more Trad shooters help with the target set up and placement of the new cones.  This is your chance to set up some very clever shots!

Our younger shooters:

  • For Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.

  • For Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Entry Fee:
$10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
$15 for non-members.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

Paper shoots may be canceled due to heavy rain (Animal, Hunter, Field Rounds).
3D Shoot will NOT canceled because of bad weather!
