New 3D Format Feedback

Tell us what you think about the new changes to our Unmarked 3D Shoots!!

We tried two new things in this 3D Round: 1) Allowing a “Range Finder-Guest” category in our Unmarked, No Range Finders Allowed 3D shoots. This is in response to comments from MANY archers who don’t shoot these incredibly fun tournaments, because they shoot very expensive arrows and don’t want to destroy an arrow if they misjudge the distance. Now, anyone is welcome to use a Range Finder to come out and enjoy the fun, but these scores will not be eligible for shoot awards or year-end Club Championship awards. (Note: Range Finder scores are posted after the usual No Range Finder scores on the results page). 2) We’ve added an orange “Trad Cone” to our 3D Rounds for all Recurve & Longbow archers. Now, the maximum distance for Trad archers is the same as the Youth division, no more than 40 yards! What do you think of these changes?? If you have any suggestions or comments on how to handle these changes better, please let us know! Send an email to:  info@sandiegoarchers.com or comment on our Facebook page HERE. Jim W. has posted a poll question there about the changes. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Farewell Tribute & Fundraiser for Sir Gordon – Unmarked 3D Round – 31 March 2018

Farewell Tribute & Fundraiser for Sir Gordon – Unmarked 3D Round
The San Diego Archers
Will host the 3D Round
This Saturday, March 31, 2018
At the Balboa Park Rube Powell Archery Range

Registration opens at 7:30am
Registration Closes at 8:45am
Shoot begins at 9am

The 3D Round includes:
28 3D targets
1 Arrows per Target
Maximum Score: 280
No Rangefinders allowed for scoring.
Optional: Rangefinders-Allowed category allowed. See below.*

A wide range of high-quality Rhinehart and Mackenzie targets are set in various hunting scenarios. Only one arrow per target is allowed unless mulligans have been purchased. A maximum of two mulligans and one or two doe tags may be purchased at registration for an additional $1 each.

As an unmarked shoot, you have to estimate the distance to the target yourself without the assistance of a rangefinder. This is a difficult and challenging aspect of these shoots, so don’t let your shooting partners know what you think the distance is!

3D Round Turkey

Scoring: 10-8-5
Maximum Score: 280

Mulligans and Doe Tags:

If you missed or scored low with the first arrow, a mulligan allows you to take another shot at a target. If you use a mulligan, your score is determined by that second arrow, even if you score worse than the first arrow.

You may use the second mulligan on the same target. Your score is determined by the last arrow shot.

There will be 1 or 2 buck-doe spreads in the field, where the doe placed between the buck and the archer. If you hit the doe and do not have a doe tag, you score -5 on the target. If you have a doe tag, you score zero. You cannot use a mulligan if you hit the doe, whether or not you have a doe tag.

If you hit the buck or miss completely, you may use a mulligan and your score is determined from that second arrow.

For Youths and Cubs

  • Youths (12-14 yo), the longest distance is 40 yards.
  • Cubs (11 yo & under), the longest distance is 25 yards.

Rangefinder-Allowed Guest Category:

  • You may choose to use a rangefinder, but your final score will not count for tournament purposes.

  • While not officially scored, you will still be eligible for the end of year Tournament Participation Champion Award (which includes a year’s free SDA club membership!).

  • Rangefinders will not be allowed in groups competing in the officially scored Unmarked 3D category.

  • The high score for compound and traditional shooters choosing the Rangefinder-Allowed category may be announced, but no awards will be given.

Entry Fee:
$10 for SDA members & Active Duty Military
$15 for non-members.

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

Paper shoots may be canceled due to heavy rain (Animal, Hunter, Field Rounds).
