Animal-19 October 2014-this

**Animal Round**

The San Diego Archers

Will host the Animal Round

This Sunday, October 19, 2014.

Registration opens at 7:30 am

Registration closes at 8:45am

Shoot begins at 9am

The Animal Round includes:

28 2D Paper Animal Targets

1-3 Arrows per Target

Maximum Score: 588

Animal Rounds use 2D paper animal targets with ‘uneven’ distances between 5 and 70 yards, reminiscent of the hunter round. The rules and scoring are significantly different.

The archer begins at the first shooting stake of the target and shoots the first arrow. If it hits, you do not have to shoot again. If it misses, you advance to the second shooting stake and shoot a second arrow, then to the third shooting stake for a third shot, if needed.  NOTE: On some targets, all three shots are from one shooting stake only.

There are 3 scoring zones:  Bonus Kill Zone, Kill Zone and Hit Zone. Scoring is based on where you hit with which arrow. The first arrow shot is scored 21, 20 or 18. The second arrow is scored 17, 16 or 14, and the third arrow is scored 13, 12 or 10.

The best score per target is 21, the total possible score for the round is 588.

Entry fee $15 per person, $10 for members

Please arrive at the Balboa Park Archery Range with plenty of time to register.

To ensure we start on time, it will be necessary to close registration at 8:45am.

Shooting starts at 9:00am.

Morley Field will be closed for three weeks starting in late September to make necessary safety upgrades.  These upgrades include the addition of MANY more target butts, which means MANY more bales need to be made.  Additional volunteers are needed to assist the regular bale makers and range maintenance volunteers.  With your help, the upgrades can be finished as quickly as possible…opening up the new Morley Field to the public as soon as possible!  The dates for the work parties are being scheduled in the evenings during the week and early morning hours on the weekends. If you are able to help with making the bales or setting up new target butts, please send your contact information (name & phone) to:

SanDiegoArchers@yahoo.com.

Please include whether you are available during the week or weekends.  A Volunteer Captain will contact you to coordinate the details.
